Safari Tour Options in Uganda

Uganda, in East Africa, has some of the most exciting wildlife in the world. Mountain gorillas, tree-climbing lions, and more than 1,000 species of birds are just three of the star attractions on offer. And the best way of experiencing these marvels is by taking a guided safari tour. Booking such a tour is best done through an experienced travel agent such as HolidayHypermarket. They will be able to help you find the holiday that is perfectly suited for you.

Uganda Safari tours can range in length from 3 days to 3 weeks; it all depends on your budget and what you want to see. First on the list for most visitors to Uganda is, of course, the mountain gorilla. Uganda is one of only three countries in the world where you can see these magnificent creatures. Most are found in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, in southwestern Uganda. Here there are more than 300 gorillas, approximately half of the world’s population. Uganda is justly proud of its gorillas and goes to great lengths to protect them. Strict safeguards are in place to ensure that they don’t contract any human diseases

Queen Elizabeth National Park, also in southwestern Uganda, is the most visited park in Uganda, and this is where you find the world-famous climbing lions. Although lions elsewhere have been seen climbing trees, generally they only do this to escape wild buffalo or another lion group. Here, black-maned lions – also unique to this park – climb into trees to rest when the sun is at its hottest. The park is home to no fewer than 95 species of mammal, including hippopotamuses and chimpanzees, and an astonishing array of bird life, with 296 different species of birds being spotted in a single day!

Murchison Falls National Park, about 190 miles northwest of the capital, Kampala, is the biggest park in Uganda at 1,408 square miles, and here you can find elephants, buffaloes, lions and leopards. Attempts are also being made to reintroduce the white rhino, which became extinct here in the wild in the 1980s. To see how this project is progressing, you can visit the nearby Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Another spectacular sight is the Murchison Falls itself, where the River Nile plunges 141 feet before continuing its 3,000 mile journey to the Mediterranean.

Dedicated bird safaris are also available. Most of these visit the Albertine Rift, home to more than half of Africa’s bird species. Although these safaris operate year-round, the best times to visit are January-March and May-August. As you might expect with so many birds, the Albertine Rift also has some wonderful flora. Approximately 5, 800 species of plant have been recorded here, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Your wildlife safari options are almost limitless when you come here to visit Uganda.
